emmythegreat:

I corresponded with him during the recording of my second album and he was really sweet and encouraging and inspiring. I’ve seen him play live a lot of times. I stayed in his house once he wasn’t there.

More like three anecdotes/ statements.

lyrics:

I miss the walks we shared in sunny art weekends
And wasting some more time in rainy day cafes
And I am grateful for even the silences we shared
It’s such a shame my soul was lost in some old fairytale

Now I’m awake
If there’s still time
For the love of love
I won’t let go

She’s just a song that I sang
You’re whom I want and really need
A haunting voice in my head
You’re the vision that I can truly see
She’s just a song that I sang
With you the more I can achieve
A haunting voice in my head
Your singing could bring more warmth to me

It was you
It was you
That did end
My curse of make-believe

Love is really strange Cause your touch still felt bigger than any kisses that I’ve ever felt
That is truth, And I really did loved you, and I thought you did too, I hope you didn’t lie to me
I understand if it’s not meant to be, but do hang with me,
Cause I don’t wanna grieve over you, as much as I grieved over her
And the bands are still playing, and the painters’ still painting
I need to bask in their glory with you

Now I’m awake
If there’s still time
For the love of love
I won’t let go

She’s just a song that I sang
You’re whom I want and really need
A haunting voice in my head
You’re the vision that I can truly see
She’s just a song that I sang
from a blank space in my memory
A haunting voice in my head
Your singing could bring more life to me

Cause of you
Cause of you
I did breathe
And felt reality

She’s just a song that I sang
A haunting voice in my head

||| @musicmandalas ||| instagram.com/musicmandalas ||| in 2010, out of some heavy feels.. i started to paint “mandala” paintings while i let my subconcious be driven by records that accomodated those feels. It is a forever ongoing project that will never stop as long as there are albums i can still relate to. Now i’ve decided to make an instagram for it cause circles go well in squares :) for now it mostly contains paintings from back in the day + 3 new ones based on my fave albums of 2013, i will update everytime i make new ones. I hope the shapes and colours will inspire you as much as the music that they are based on have inspired me! ||| instagram.com/musicmandalas ||| @musicmandalas |||

(#1) MY SONG OF THE YEAR: JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE – MIRRORS —
LISTEN: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuZE_IRwLNI ——-
There are two epics about “reflection” this year. Arcade Fire’s Reflektor and Justin Timberlake’s Mirrors. Reflektor might have a bigger chance to be included in the list and maybe top it if this list is called “My top 10 Mind Songs of 2013”, but this is the “HEART songs” list and I am convinced that “Mirrors” reign supreme. —
To be honest I didn’t push the play button to this song as much as a lot of the other songs in this list, but overplayed pop hits are a different case: you don’t have to play it often in your music player to have it be ingrained in your mind. Perhaps it’s not as “cool” or as musically intricate as some of my other favorite 2013 songs, but spiritually it lies on a higher plane. Compared to any other pop songs that seem to “follow” me everywhere I go, Mirrors “soars” the highest in my heart and soul every time it’s on. With its universal power of a good melody and simple, relatable unashamedly cheesy but “solid” lyrics… It heavily tickled both a dying memory and a newfound desire from da story of my life. —
Other than from the radio, television and background music of public places, I also heard around four/five or more members of the opposite sex around me (including my sister who I know think highly of the song as well) who subconsciously hummed it throughout the year. There was a memorable moment this year when I was walking up the stairs and this girl hummed/sang the song beautifully and some kind of melancholic force struck me warmly right there. Not sure if it was the echo of the place or purely the beauty of a memorable melody or the romantic notion of the scale and importance of pop music… but I damn had an existential moment then, definitely adding to the mystique of the song in my world. —
Here’s wishing I’ll have another “moment” on this glorious New Year’s eve where this song shines, either in reality or in my head. May all of everyone have a happy new year! Including YOU. —

(#2) Daft Punk – Touch —
LISTEN: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfH3erWacsQ ——-
When was the last time you got “touched” by something that felt much “more” than your average mundane experiences? Here I am, for this song’s write-up, trying to list moments in recent memory where I got “touched” by things or events that meant a lot to me which are reminded by this song’s epic structure… only to figure out that the kind of “Touch” that’s most connected and in tune with the song is the kind of “touch” that you feel when you experience a moving, riveting piece of music, such as, well, Daft Punk’s Touch. —
There are melancholic/nostalgic moments in music listening where, for example, you listen to a melody and you recalled, or perhaps try to recall a certain memory that you think suits well with that tune. It’s one of the most glorious things about the whole thing, but, in truth, what I feel could be MORE glorious is when a piece of music gives you a feel that you have never felt or experienced before. Memories of being mystically “touched” come bubbling up every time I listen to Touch, but none of it ever really fully surface or became visible, I still can’t pinpoint what the song’s grand shifts and soaring highs actually reminded me of other than the time the song first properly touched my heart (which was on my first listen if I remember correctly). Songs like this not only “touches” you, but also “put” something into you.. like a false memory you wouldn’t shake off. —
So here’s one in this list that I dedicate to “music” itself, and its power to kindle the imagination. You know what they say: You CAN’T touch music but music touches YOU. It’s safe to say that this music thing is a part of me that by now I will always hold on to.

(#3) Kanye West – Bound 2 —
LISTEN: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBAtAM7vtgc ——-
I do generic but vicious rap hand gestures during the verses but then spin like a brain-dead-love-fried dervish to the Charlie Wilson section when no one’s looking. This is a song of thunderous feels composition. —
After my long-ass lyrics, I’m tired, Love itself is tired. Rumi Wept. —
Something from the guy I need to grasp for the new year and beyond: “Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond” —
That’s right, Uh huh honey ;+)

LISTEN: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wcjv9yo7bjM ——-
As often the case with Ezra Koenig’s lyrics, not really sure what the song is actually about lel, but I have my own feelings and meanings for it, and out of the brilliant Modern Vampires of The City, this is the one song I ended up visiting most often this year —
Yo Jakarta, and whatever form of heavy love you hold for me.. pls be good :) —

(#6) WAVVES – DEMON TO LEAN ON —
LISTEN: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lG8HCFQa3OQ ——-
My heart is still with god and the angels, but my sympathy for “The Devil” is high this year. Keeping my distance tho, I wouldn’t lean too close.. but I understand, I understand the primal needs, the carnal desires and the lust for freedom. A lot of things about his world are inviting but it doesn’t guarantee eternal pleasure either, so I still try to be in control even tho I’m drawn to touch that very attractive burning fire he possesses. Wavves have created a solid rock song in which the central lyric seems to tickle my personal feelings towards the whole matter. Should I wait for overdue angels in saving my soul from whatever form of sorrow that lingers? or should I just surrender myself to the ever-accepting demons that have always existed under me? —
I wonder of the actual main reason why I take Vinnie (my Van Gogh finger puppet) around in my bag all the time, but I’m sure other than because I like the art of his past life.. there’s definitely that darkly “romantic” drunken, struggling artist sentiment that is for some reason beautiful to me. I’m not him tho, I’m not any of my idols for that matter.. I am me and I am walking my own pursuit of beauty, I know what I’m experiencing in my life is light years away from what he experienced in his painful, creative days. Still he is my friend and I need to understand my friend. I love my friend, so I keep him around : ) I’m showing him the new world. —
Lets rock! Stay burning.

(#8) KITTY – DEAD ISLAND —
(LISTEN: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1LlgfPF2dQ ) ——-
I still feel “gurl pls I‘m not sure how and fo realla I want that shiiit!!” everytime I heard the line “You don’t know why I get blogged!” rapped cheekily by Kitty in this song. Dude I wanna get blogged a lot too!!!  THAT URRRGE! I mean all my art, music and whatever!! Yes this is an unashamed public confession and my egotistical side is caught in the nude HAHAHHA!! ….Well this side of me still weirded me out actually.. I’m not sure the EXACT time it blossomed, but for sure It’s a really peculiar thing because the way I make any kind of art is from a very natural place. I focus totally on the ART, I focus totally on the feelings I want to convey and I channel what “I’m allowed to channel” by whatever force is giving me the urge to create. That’s how my art works.. so I think Andra Semesta is being kinda ANNOYING and UNFAIR when everytime the art is already out.. he has a heavy desperation for attention. It’s like Andra’s art is purer than Andra himself and I (Andra) kinda hate that. —
Well but I live with this “Andra” body and brain so I have to look at the bright side of it: What I usually crave for when looking for internet “acknowledgment” or whatever it is.. is not blatant fame.. but “opinions”. It’s 100% better to get a negative comment/constructive criticism than not hearing anything about the things I put out. I love that you see, listen and read, but only a handful of people actually “say”. Be honest. —
BACK TO KITTY! I’M SORRY. One of the fondest memory of listening to this song was in a car looking at the mean streets of Jakarta, the full moon was smiling and as I was coated in all this song’s sugary, atmospheric glory, I say in my mind: “LETS GET IT”. Here’s hoping like Kitty, I am also the wonderwall. I believe so. Fuck being underdogs or wunderkinds. I believe heavily in any kind of expression I put out there. Remember that I respect all “likes” and “comments” anywhere anytime! LOLLL. Love love love! !!! twitter.com/andrahaha !!! !!!! soundcloud.com/green-of-life !!!! Oh and nice current green hair kttyyy :+)

(#10) CHRISTOPHER OWENS – LOVE IS IN THE EAR OF THE LISTENER —
LISTEN: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMKqGj4-hb8 ——-
A simple and sweet song about perception. Endlessly I contemplate about the subjectivity of art this year, and I guess this little ditty sums it up pretty well. Like Christopher in this infectious (the word “cute might apply for some people) song,… I question a lot of things: Are there such thing as “good taste“? Shall I try hard to make “good” music and paintings or should I just follow my feels as always?? How many people are entertained by my internet self-expression? How many are annoyed?? LOL… In the end though.. as sung by Chris: “well some people never GET anything and I shouldn’t care what people think“.  I guess I’m down with that :). Additionally, I guess other than art.. this song also applies to personalities and the social world. I guess you’ll never know but I believe in this world there are people who are perfectly fine with whatever/whoever you are. So.. it’s all okay!! [Warning: this whole “Heart Songs” list might contain more of the same amount of #cheese as you have read in this entry]

[My Top 8 Most Important Albums of 2013] —-
(#1) MY ALBUM OF THE YEAR: KANYE WEST – YEEZUS ——-
When Yeezus came out.. it encircled my being & possessed me for quite a while, I just can’t stop listening, surrendering to Kanye’s energy. it was definitely Yeezy Season there in my brain & Kanye is king  —
I feel like the album is a significant part of pop culture in 2013, at least in the music world. There’s always something about it that anyone can talk about, either the actual content or the things that surrounds it. With both the artist’s art & the artist’s persona, Kanye West certainly knows his ways to be the centre of attention. What personally tickled my imagination the most was the amusing fact that mainstream/casual music listeners (a large part of Kanye’s fanbase), which includes kids not usually presented with alternative/challenging music, are being exposed to a pop musician’s ego rising up to the point where he is proclaiming “I am a God”. I feel like it’s only in this day and age that this is happening in popular music —
Musically I could really connect with the dark vibes of the album. A really cool direction for “Art Kanye” to take (with the first 3 albums being “traditional Hip-hop kanye”).. Yeezus reveals what I perceive as an artist that basically had turned insane deep down inside. There’s an overwhelming sense of maniacal darkness clouding the record: anger, hate & a hunger for more & more of that “everything”. Kanye West is letting his music be a total reflection of his life, and maybe it’s helping him to not “go full retard” in real life? He’s already famous for doing bizarre self-absorbed public acts, just imagine how it would be if he doesn’t express himself through music —

It’s the most important album of 2013 for me because like any great work of art, I saw vast points of reflection on it. If Flaming Lips’ The terror reflects my emotional state.. then Yeezus reflects vicious layers of my confidence and desires. Artistically there’s a monster trying to get out from me and I guess there’s a war between my conscious self and the ego of my subconscious. I’m not sure what it means but listening to Yeezus ultimately “empowers” me
